Chautauqua Lake junior Mason Maring has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week presented by the SonShine Charitable Fund for the week of Monday, January 22nd – Sunday, January 28th, 2024.
Maring went 3-0 in week nine of the 2023-2024 season. On Wednesday, he helped the Eagles to secure a second straight Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association (CCAA) Division I title and 6-0 season in the league.
In Chautauqua Lake’s second appearance at the NYSPHSAA Dual Meet Championships on Saturday, Mason went 2-0 earning a pin at 215-pounds against Northern Adirondack before gutting out a close decision victory over a tough opponent in the team’s loss to a quality Palmyra-Macedon squad.
So far this season, Maring is 35-4 and a key piece of the strong upper weight portion of Coach Rowe’s lineup. Mason is a returning sectional finalist and NYS individual tournament qualifier as well.
According to his coaches, Mason is an example student-athlete as he carries excellent grades and is a leader in the classroom and on the wrestling team where he continues to sharpen good leaderships characteristics. Outside of school, Mason shows leadership in the community as an Eagle Scout.

The mission of the SonShine Charitable Fund is to financially assist families who have experienced the death of a child by offering monetary grants to help with some portion of funeral costs. The Fund covers all eight counties of WNY and the four most north western counties of Pennsylvania.
