Maple Grove senior Matt Trim has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week presented by the SonShine Charitable Fund for the week of Monday, February 5th – Saturday, February 10th, 2024.
Trim captured his second consecutive Section VI title on Saturday going 3-0 with two pins and a major decision. Trim, a returning NYS 8th place finisher, was an impressive winner by pin in the second period of the final over a fellow returning state tournament qualifier. Going into the federation championships, Matt carries a 41-2 season record.
According to his coaches, Matt is the hardest worker in the wrestling room, leads by example, and is a role model to his teammates and instils a positive mindset in his fellow Red Dragons. Matt is a team captain and carries a ninety-seven average in school while also helping to coach youth wrestling.
Matt plans to attend Penn State – Behrend in Erie next fall to pursue an education in plastics engineering.

The mission of the SonShine Charitable Fund is to financially assist families who have experienced the death of a child by offering monetary grants to help with some portion of funeral costs. The Fund covers all eight counties of WNY and the four most north western counties of Pennsylvania.
