St. Francis sophomore Rory White has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week presented by the SonShine Charitable Fund for the week of Monday, December 4th – Saturday, December 9th, 2023.
White captured the STWOA Kickoff Classic 145-pound title over the weekend to help the Red Raiders capture the team title by a single half point at Jamestown Community College. Rory was the 5-seed in the bracket and defeated the 4, 1, and 2-seeds on the way to the title. He secured four pins including over a returning NYS federation tournament qualifier in the quarters and then over a 2022 NYS place winner in the semifinal. In the championship match, White was a 1-0 winner over his third state tournament qualifier opponent of the tournament, a crucial victory to help the Raiders to the team honors.
So far this season, Rory is 13-0 for the WNY #3 Red Raiders. He missed placing in the 2023 CHSAA Championships but is emerging as a force in the middle of talented Raiders lineup through two weeks of the new season.
Rory is an honors student at St. Francis High School. According to his coaches, he is a hard worker, very coachable, and shows great respect for his opponents with exemplary sportsmanship. Rory’s coaches also say that he dedicated himself to the sport working extremely hard in the offseason.
