Chautauqua Lake senior Sophia Gervasio has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week presented by the SonShine Charitable Fund for the week of Monday, February 12th – Saturday, February 17th, 2024.
Gervasio posted a 6-0 record in the final week of the girls’ wrestling schedule for the 2023-2024 season. On Tuesday, Sophia earned a head to head victory in the Eagles’ 45-30 win over Alexander (V) on senior night. Then, on Saturday, she went a perfect 5-0 to help lead Chautauqua Lake to a 4-1 dual record and a 2nd place finish at the Section VI Girls’ Dual Meet Invitational at Dunkirk. In those five duals, Sophia accepted one forfeit, secured three pins, and was a 6-4 sudden victory OT winner over another very talented wrestler in in the dual against Lockport.
Sophia is a two year wrestler on the Chautauqua Lake girls’ team and, according to her coaches, is always looking to improve and is a hard worker in the room.
In school, Gervasio maintains strong grades and is a member of the National Honor Society where she helps with community service activities.

The mission of the SonShine Charitable Fund is to financially assist families who have experienced the death of a child by offering monetary grants to help with some portion of funeral costs. The Fund covers all eight counties of WNY and the four most north western counties of Pennsylvania.
