Amherst senior Zak Saeed has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week presented by the SonShine Charitable Fund for the week of Monday, January 29th – Sunday, February 4th, 2024.
Saeed captured the Section VI Class A 152-pound title on Saturday posting a 3-0 tournament record. On Wednesday, Zak earned a crucial major decision at 160-pounds to help lead the Tigers to a 42-15 victory over Pioneer for the program’s first outright ECIC league dual meet title since the 1999-2000 season.
So far this season, Zak is 32-5 overall with first place individual finishes at the Class A, ECIC, and Akron tournaments. He went 6-0 in ECIC II duals this year earning team bonus points in all six of those wins and was a major piece in the middle part of the lineup all season for the WNY #5 large school Tigers. Saeed is also a returning 5th place finisher from the 2023 Section VI Division I Championships and is the 2-seed at 152 for Saturday’s 2024 sectional championships.
According to his coaches, Zak is a quiet leader and a true student-athlete maintaining a high grade point average while taking AP level classes at Amherst Central High School.

The mission of the SonShine Charitable Fund is to financially assist families who have experienced the death of a child by offering monetary grants to help with some portion of funeral costs. The Fund covers all eight counties of WNY and the four most north western counties of Pennsylvania.
