Falconer senior Robbie Penhollow has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler Of the Week for the final week of the 2018-2019 season.
Penhollow became the third state champion in Golden Falcons wrestling program history on Saturday in Albany. He was the top seed in the Division II 195-pound weight class and earned two pins and a semifinal decision to advance to the finals. Robbie dominated his opponent in the Saturday evening finale to cap off a 49-1 season and return to WNY as a state champion.
Robbie finishes his high school career as a NYS champion and a two-time Section VI champion with an overall record of 167-30, making him seventh in program history in wins. He comes from true a ‘wrestling family;’ his father, John, was a NYS finalist, and cousins Brad Penhollow and Jim Beichner were state place winners. Two more of Robbie’s relatives competed at the state tournament. Also, Penhollow was named to the first team all-state Class C football team this fall by NYSSWA.
“It’s not very often that you get to coach a guy that has the character, work ethic, and athleticism to accomplish great things,” said Falconer head coach Drew Wilcox on his senior captain. “Robbie is the epitome of all of those things. He was the ultimate team player, almost like having another coach on staff, and we wouldn’t have accomplished the things we have without him. It was a pleasure to coach him and I am excited to see what his future holds.”
