WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week: Shane Walczyk

Eden junior Shane Walczyk has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week Presented by G&G Fitness for the fifth week of the 2021 season (June 14th – June 19th) in Division II.

Walczyk captured the Section VI Division II 145-pound title on Saturday as the third seed in the weight class. Walczyk earned a major decision in the first round before capturing a 10-6 decision win over the 2-seed and returning NYS 7th place finisher. In the final, Walczyk was a 7-5 decision winner over the 4-seed who toppled the top seeded two-time sectional champion in the semifinal.

Walczyk completed an undefeated 14-0 spring wrestling season while leading the Raiders to the ECIC III title. Shane also has split time this spring as a dual sport athlete as the starting goalie for the 9-4 Raiders lacrosse team, currently the #2 seed in the Section VI Class D playoffs.

Walczyk is recognized by his coaches as a hard worker, leader, and example-setter not only for Raiders wrestling but all of Eden athletics.
