WNY Athletics Wrestler Of the Week: Tyler Le

Cheektowaga senior Tyler Le has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler Of the Week for Week 7 of the 2018-2019 season (1/7-1/12/2019).

Tyler has been a six-year starter for head coach Matt Haberl and the Warriors. Last week he won his match in an ECIC III dual to help lift the Warriors over Union Road rival Maryvale, 39-33, helping the young Cheektowaga squad improve to 3-2 in the league. This weekend, Tyler won the 126-pound Patrick Morales Memorial Tournament title at Falconer earning a pin and a major decision before pinning his Eisenhower, PA opponent in the final. Also, Tyler was recognized with the tournament’s annual Gregg Munksgard Memorial Award presented to an athlete that ‘works hard, is a leader, and has good character.’

So far this season Tyler carries a 26-8 record competing between 126 and 132-pounds in two of the area’s deepest weight classes. He also recently earned his 100th career win at the NFWOA tournament.

Tyler has taken on challenging opponents each week with enthusiasm and determination. Regardless of the result, Tyler exemplifies the characteristics of a good leader and sets the example for the younger Warrior wrestlers to follow.

“He’s really stepped up this year to lead a young team” said Coach Haberl about Le. “He’s really working hard right now.”
