WNY Boys Lacrosse Roundup: Mon 4/29 – Weds 5/1

Boys lacrosse results and highlights from Week Seven games played Monday, April 29th to Wednesday, May 1st.

Monday, April 29th

Akron 22 – Newfane 7

Akron improved to 5-3 with a win over the Panthers to kick off the final month of the season. Donovan Nephew paced the Tigers with 5 goals. Kaleb Delaney notched 4 scores and 2 assists while Carter Jensen, Gage Willis, Liam Regan, and Millard Young each scored a pair of goals. Five more Tigers found recorded one score each. Akron visits Class D rival Medina on Friday.

East Aurora 19 – Frontier 0

The Blue Devils cruised to a win in their first game since April 17th. Connor Boss recorded 4 goals for the 8-2 Devils. They’ll have a real test on Thursday when Lancaster visits.

Tuesday, April 30th

Williamsville North 14 – Williamsville East 9

The Spartans handed the Flames their first loss on the season and won the Williamsville Cup on a very special night at home as Army Staff Sergeant William ‘Bill’ Wilson was remembered in the annual ‘Bill Wilson Game’ for his ultimate sacrifice during Operation Enduring Freedom in March of 2012.

Owen Cooney and Tyler Zeplowitz each scored 4 goals. Conor Murphy added 2 scores and 2 assists, Sean Fitzpatrick added 1 goal and 1 assist, Brian Patterson recorded 2 scores, Juan Antonetty found the net once. Freshman Tommy Cunningham made his first varsity start in net for North and stopped 17 East shots, holding the Flames to only 2 scores in the second half while the Spartans offense came alive with 8 scores to take the lead and win the game.

Niagara Wheatfield 17 – Lockport 3

The well-rested Falcons haven’t played since April 15th. Zack Lloyd recorded 4 goals and 1 assist while Tyler Belter found the net twice and contributed 3 assists. JT Hamby had another solid night winning 16 of 20 faceoffs and picking up 16 ground balls. At 6-3 overall Wheatfield needs to beat some good teams down the stretch to keep pace with the other Class B leaders.

St. Joe’s 16 – Canisius 2

A very strong Marauders team overpowered their archrival in their second meeting of the season. Cole Campbell paced ‘Joe’s with 4 goals. Trey Gehen recorded 3 scores, and Kellen Pulera, Evan Mulderig, and Ryan McGorry each notched 2 goals. Mulderig and Pulera each had 2 assists as well. Three more players found the net once each. Austin Holley was 13 for 16 on the faceoff and Jack Rapini stopped 13 shots in net for the 11-1 Marauders.

Lancaster 5 – Clarence 4

The Legends had to earn a win against their neighborly rival at home against a Red Devils team that has been playing better ever since a big loss on April 9th. Lancaster visits a very tough East Aurora team on Thursday in what is shaping up to be a very interesting matchup. Scoring results not submitted.

Sweet Home 17 – North Tonawanda 2

The Panthers needed a win after a bit of a recent losing streak. Scoring results not submitted.

Wednesday, May 1st

Amherst 12 – Lake Shore 9

The Tigers have made a habit out of holding the normally high scoring Eagles team under double digit goals in two head to head wins this year. Scoring results not submitted.
