Section VI boys lacrosse results and highlights from Week One of the 2019 season.
Tuesday, March 19th
Williamsville East 11 – Amherst 4
The 2018 Section VI Class B runner-up hit the ground running on opening day and didn’t slow down. East was solid both offensively and defensively. Clayton Osborne netted 4 goals and 2 assists for the Flames. Sam Meltser and Dom Piccillo recorded 2 goals each. Dylan Schihl was 13/14 in face offs and Joe Amici had 8 saves in net. Ryan Bitka netted 2 goals for Amherst.
Sweet Home 4 – Grand Island 3 (OT)
Lucas Marshall recorded a hat trick but it was Aiden Brath who saved the day for the Panthers scoring the OT winner with less than two seconds left on the clock.
Williamsville North 14 – Williamsville South 5
Juan Antonetty led an offensive explosion by the Spartans recording 4 goals on Tuesday night. Owen Cooney added 3 scores of his own, and Sean Fitzpatrick, Brian Patterson, and Conor Murphy (3 assists) each added a pair of goals as well. Tyler Zeplowitz netted 1 goal for North.
Wednesday, March 20th
Kenmore 10 – Wilson 5
Seamus McPhee scored 5 goals in leading the combined Kenmore East and West squad to a win in the team’s first ever varsity game. Four different players scored for Wilson. Marc Dolyk led the Lakemen scorers with 2 goals.
Thursday, March 21st
Williamsville East 9 – Lancaster 8
East took down the defending Section VI Class A champion at home. Dom Piccillo paced the Flames this time with 4 goals. Ryan Mitchell and Sam Meltser each added a pair of scores. Clayton Osborne scored a goal and an assist and scooped up 10 ground balls while Joe Amici stopped 13 shots in net.
Niagara Wheatfield 19 – Kenmore 5
Elias Dowdy led the way for the Falcons recording 6 goals and 1 assist. Chase Chapman netted 3 goals and recorded 3 assists, and midfielder JT Hamby picked up 15 ground balls.
Friday, March 22nd
Orchard Park 17 – Iroquois 4
Iroquois struck first, but after Cayden Collins scored to tie things up it was all Quakers. Collins netted 7 total scores and added 2 assists. Quinn O’Brien and Carter Korzenski each recorded hat tricks totaling 3 goals apiece. Jake Shul and Max Streety each scored twice for OP. Eight different Quakers were credited with assists. Lucas Achman recorded a hat trick for Iroquois while Paul Fitzgerald also found the net for the Chiefs.
