Starpoint 33, North Tonawanda 6
The Spartans and Lumberjacks traded touchdowns early on in this one but it was all Starpoint from there. Carson Marcus got the party started with a 1-yard TD run giving Starpoint a 6-0 lead. North Tonawanda responded soon after with a nifty TD run by Austin Nochreiner, tying the game 6-6.
Marcus connected with Evan Dean before the end of the first quarter that put Starpoint up 13-6 and the Spartans never looked back. Jason Richardson added a 9-yard score and Colby Lawrence fell on a loose football in the NT endzone giving Starpoint a 27-6 lead with just over a minute left in the 1st half.
Richardson would add another rushing TD in the 2nd half, finishing the day with 119 yards on 21 carries. Starpoint accumulated 230 yards on the ground. Lawrence had 7 tackles and a sack while George Thompson was credited with 10 tackles and a sack as well.
Starpoint (3-0, 2-0) travel to Grand Island for a tough Class A North match-up next Friday evening while North Tonawanda (1-3, 0-1) will faceoff on the road against Sweet Home on Saturday, kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.
Williamsville South 45, South Park 22
The Billies took advantage of six South Park turnovers in route to a 45-22 win at All-High Stadium. Williamsville South had their backs against the wall heading into this Class A South match-up, needing a win to remain in the playoff picture. They took a huge step in the right direction in defeating one of the hottest teams of late in WNY. The Sparks were looking to make it three wins in a row. Sophomore QB Noah Willoughby has quickly made a name for himself after back-to-back performances that saw him throw 5 TDs in each game.
Jerry Thompson and Max Graves each returned interceptions for touchdowns. Graves pick-6 came in the fourth quarter with Will South out front 30-22 and South Park driving. Graves made a one-handed catch and returned it 74-yards to the house to seal the deal.
Christian Dewer had 19 carries for 107 yards and two touchdowns, Nathaniel Zachery also scored a rushing TD. Brett Johnson caught a TD pass from PJ Tasca.
Williamsville South (2-2, 1-1) will host Hamburg Friday night while South Park makes the long drive down to Jamestown in a rematch of last years Class A Final.
Wison 48, Tonawanda 0
Wilson, fresh off a tough loss at the hands of Albion last week rebounded well at home against fellow Class C North division rival Tonawanda, shutting out the Warriors 48-0. It was their second shutout of the season.
Wilson (3-1, 2-0) is scheduled to play Akron next Friday but since the Tigers are on a 10-day pause, there’s the distinct possibility the game will be moved to Saturday or perhaps Monday. Tonawanda (0-4, 0-2) travel to Newfane for a Saturday 2pm kickoff.
