**Tuesday, 1/3/2023**

**#7 Wilson 45 – St. Mary’s 22**

Wilson fielded a wrester at every weight but one (double forfeit) to get the team’s 14th win of the season in the final days leading up to the Section VI Duals. All eight of the Lakemen’s head to head wins were pins. Three of the Lancer’s wins were by pin and a major to make this an all-bonus team point affair.

**HM St. Joe’s 66 – Canisius 4**

The Marauders had to wait well over a year for a Msgr. Martin rematch with the Crusaders who on Dec. 15, 2021, took down ‘Joe’s for the first time in some years. If it was revenge they wanted, revenge the Marauders got as they claimed nine wins in the ten head to head matches, all by way of pin. St. Joe’s junior Nik Massaro earned his 100th career victory in the contest. A solid performance at the Teike-Bernabi Tournament followed by an eye catching score right out of the holiday break might suggest a St. Joe’s team heating up for the second half of the season. The Marauders improve to 2-0 in the league while Canisius falls to 2-1 in the Msgr. Martin schedule.

**Lockport 48 – St. Mary’s 18**

**Wednesday, 1/4**

**Chautauqua Lake girls 54 – Fredonia girls 24**

A historic first in took place in Mayville on Wednesday when the Lady Thunderbirds took on the Fredonia girls’ team in the first ever girls-team dual meet in WNY. The match proceeded the boys CL vs. Fredonia CCAA I dual meet to put a full night of wrestling on display at Chautauqua Lake HS.

The Lady T’Birds won nine of the thirteen weight classes on the way to victory. Gabriella Tetsa, Mia Smith, Sophia Gervasio, Lillian Hyde, and Christina Dickey all earned pins for Chautauqua Lake while Lily Snyder, Madison Szymanowski, Jalyn Linton, and Gabrielle Freeburg accepted forfeits. Fredonia’s Leah Waite and Evelyn Cuthbert were winners by pin for the Lady ‘Billies while Meyah Aponte and Meghan Johnson accepted forfeits to round out the scoring for Fredonia.

**#4 Lancaster 33 – #8 Williamsville North/East 32**

An exciting dual from start to finish saw the defending ECIC I and Section VI Duals champions squeeze by the 3-0 (league) Spartans in Amherst in a hostile environment. The teams swapped nine lead changes through the course of the 13 weight classes. Lancaster won seven weights to North’s six while each earned three pins and one forfeit. Two Spartans contributed major decisions in the effort as well. Going into the last bout at 110-pounds, North led 32-30. Lancaster freshman Max DeSantis was in control of the bout with a 4-0 lead. However, that lead quickly evaporated after DeSantis committed three technical violations to even the scoore. With about nine seconds remaining in the bout, the North wrestler escaped to take a 5-4 lead, however DeSantis quickly chased him down and secured a double leg takedown for the walk off win with only seconds left on the clock. The Legends are once again on top of the league standings as the last unbeaten team in ECIC I.

**#5 Pioneer 62 – #10 Springville 3**

The Panthers dominated the meeting of 2-0 ECIC III squads in Yorkshire on Wednesday. In doing so, Pioneer extended WNY’s longest active league win streak to 60 consecutive ECIC II & III wins over the last nine full seasons. Pioneer improves to 3-0 in the league with another home ECIC III match next Tuesday against the 2-0 Lake Shore Eagles. The Panthers will host ‘Generations Night’ on Jan. 10th; all Pioneer Panthers Wrestling alumni are encouraged to attend.

**#6 Randolph 43 – Maple Grove 27**

The Cardinals cleared another hurdle on the way towards the CCAA II throne on Wednesday with a road win against a Dragons team coming off an 8-1 performance at the Wolverine Scuffle last week. Randolph won eight weight classes and accepted three forfeits and conceded one. The teams did split with four head to head wins apiece. Outside of returning state qualifier Ryan Carpenter from Randolph, each squad has a returning sectional 5th place winner as well as a number of other quality wrestlers that might make some postseason noise.

**HM Jamestown 44 – Orchard Park 30**

Jamestown handed over four forfeits in the dual but won eight of nine contested matches with six pins to get a huge road win over an ECIC I league rival. Zach Little and Cole Bloomquist earned perhaps the most crucial falls for the Red Raiders in the dual. This Jamestown squad appears to be headed in the right direction.

**Frewsburg 37 – Gowanda 29**

Don’t look now but the BEARS are 3-0 in CCAA II tied with Randolph atop the league standings! Frewsburg put out a FULL LINEUP and collected the only two forfeits of the dual as the Panthers were also well staffed. The Bears earned seven wins to Gowanda’s six and earned three pins to two. After four weights Frewsburg jumped out to a 22-0 lead with three forfeits and a major decision to open the match. Next Tuesday’s Randolph at Frewsburg battle of 3-0 CCAA II teams could be for at least a share of the league title.

**Medina 44 – #7 Wilson 24**

**# 3 Niagara Falls 54 – HM North Tonawanda 21**

Falls collected three forfeits and won all six of their head to head matches by pin to improve to 4-0 in the NFL and 7-1 overall heading into the weekend. NT sits at 2-2 in the league with a crucial NFL showdown for what will likely be the league’s 3rd place spot on the line next week at Kenmore West.

**#1 Starpoint 58 – #8 Iroquois 3**

Senior Matt Caldwell earned a hugely valuable head to head win against returning NYS 5th place winner Trevor Barry in the dual. The Spartans improve to 4-0 in ECIC II and will have another southtowns road test next week when they visit #5 Hamburg/Eden on Weds. who are also 4-0.

**#5 Hamburg/Eden 63 – East Aurora/Holland 12**

The BullRaiders stormed to their 4th ECIC II win with #1 Starpoint coming to Legion Drive next week. H/E’s full lineup collected a number of forfeits from EA/H, however the teams combined for a solid handful of exhibitions which is hopefully a positive sign for the future for EA/H as it relates to participation.

**#6 Amherst 62 – Sweet Home 6**

The Tigers improve to 4-0 in ECIC II in their final tune up before the Section VI Duals. Amherst hosts #7 St. Francis next week before rounding out the month with Starpoint and Hamburg/Eden, both at home.

**Grand Island 43 – Kenmore 24**

How about the Vikings?! GI erased a 16-point loss from the first weekend of the season to earn a 19-point win over NFL rival Kenmore at home on Wednesday. The Vikings accepted three forfeits and gave one back, but won seven of nine head to head matches with five crucial pins. A core group of wrestlers primarily from 102/110 to 138/145 led by sophomore Dylan Castiglia has really emerged in the last two weeks. It will be interesting to see what first year head coach Steve Leibler can do with this squad through the rest of this season and into the next. GI sits at 2-2 in the NFL with Lockport, Wheatfield, and CSAT remaining in conference.

**#2 Niagara Wheatfield 70 – CSAT 6**

**NO FORFEITS.** Please recognize and give a huge shoutout to CSAT for what they’ve done in only a few short years with creating a team, taking licks in the rugged NFL, and filling their lineup. It isn’t a secret that the mighty Falcons hold the advantage here when it comes to the on-the mat abilities, but give credit where it is due for a school and coaches putting in the time to make something of this program. The Eagles will compete in their first Section VI Duals on Saturday at Lancaster. Wheatfield is now 4-0 in the NFL and has scored no less than 62-points in all four matches.

**HM Clarence 54 – West Seneca/Depew 24**

At 2-1 in ECIC I the Red Devils are right in the middle of the league standings. Clarence will travel to Blasdell to take on #9 Frontier next Weds. in a crucial showdown for both teams. The Devils also have #10 Orchard Park remaining and host the league leading Lancaster Legends on the 18th.

**#1 Chautauqua Lake 57 – Fredonia 12**

The Thunderbirds improve to 4-0 in CCAA I. Next up for the T’Birds is a critical league showdown at SW on Jan. 11. However, these teams could match up on Saturday in Lancaster should they both reach the Div. II sectional dual meet final.

**#2 Falconer/Cassadaga Valley 71 – Dunkirk 6**

The Golden Cougars improve to 3-0 in CCAA I.

**#3 Southwestern 60 – Olean/Allegany-Limestone 12**

The Trojans improve to 4-0 in CCAA I.

**#4 Newfane 58 – Akron 18**

Newfane remains unbeaten in the N-O at 3-0.

**#9 Portville 40 – Franklinville 6**

**Barker/Royalton-Hartland 33 – Albion 27**

**Cheektowaga 42 – Lackawanna 28**

**Williamsville South 54 – Canisius 20**

**Tonawanda 42 – Maryvale 31**

**Lockport 60 – Lewiston-Porter 13**

**Thursday, 1/5**

**HM Jamestown 48 – #9 Frontier 15**

The Red Raiders get their second win in as many nights against a top 10 ranked league rival to break even at 2-2 in ECIC I duals. Only two league matches are left on the schedule for Jamestown, both at home. They’ll take on West Seneca/Depew next Weds. and then host #8 Williamsville North/East for what is shaping up to be a very interesting dual on Weds. 1/25. Keep an eye on these Raiders who have been and are still steadily on the rise.

**HM St. Joe’s 54 – St. Mary’s 17**

After a 2-0 week in league duals the Marauders sit comfortably atop the Msgr. Martin standings at 3-0. ‘Joe’s won seven of ten contested bouts and collected two forfeits in the dual, with all seven of those head to head wins coming by way of pin. St. Joe’s will travel into Section V to tangle with the Spencerport Rangers next Weds. 1/11.

**#8 Williamsville North/East 64 – Williamsville South 9**

**Akron 43 – St. Mary’s 24**

**Friday, 1/6**

**#5 Pioneer 58 – Olean/A-L 9**

**Sweet Home 37 – Tonawanda 36 (tiebreaker)**
