Dual meet results and notes for matches wrestled Tuesday, February 1st and Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022.

Tuesday, February 1st

#8 Williamsville North/East 39 – #6 Clarence 33

The Spartans get the final ECIC I victory of the 2021-2022 season at home and on senior night, finishing the brutal league slate at 3-4 and just over .500 overall on the year at 8-7. After North jumped ahead 18-6 through four bouts, Clarence won the next four, three of which were by pin, to take a 27-18 lead. The teams traded pins at 152 and 160-pounds. With only three matches left the Red Devils took a 33-24 lead. However, two Clarence forfeits to end the the match loomed at 189 and 215, so at least a decision win for North at 172 would seal the win. The Spartans got just that as Ryan Burck gutted out a tough 5-2 decision to ensure a Williamsville victory. While the Devils won the head to head battle, six wins to three, and earned more pins, five to two, forfeits were again the Achilles’ heel for Clarence as they conceded twenty-four team points in the loss.

For Williamsville, this was the third league match decided by one bout out of their seven league duals this season alone. Also, head coach Joe Muscarella’s team wrestled every single other top ten ranked large school (see WNY Athletics Wrestling Dual Meet Power Ranking Eight) this season, the only such team to do so in either large or small schools in WNY. Out of the Spartans’ fifteen duals, they wrestled double the amount of ranked opponents (10) versus non-ranked (5). North’s win also knocked Clarence out of tying for the 2nd place spot in ECIC I which now belongs solely to #6 Frontier.

Tuesday, January 2nd

#8 Randolph 48 – #9 Maple Grove 30

The Cardinals wrapped up the CCAA schedule with a convincing win at home against league rival Maple Grove. Randolph entered wrestlers in all but two weights and claimed five head to wins in eight contested matches with all five coming by way of pin. The Dragons earned three pins in all three of their head to head wins. Randolph finishes the season 4-1 in CCAA II and 6-2 overall good for 2nd place in the league standings followed directly by Maple Grove at 3-2, 10-7.

East Aurora/Holland 36 – Sweet Home 18

The final result of the 2021-2022 season was wrapped up in East Aurora on Tuesday with the Blue Devils getting an ECIC II win. In a limited number of head to heads both teams tied with three wins apiece. All three Blue Devils pinned while two Panthers earned decisions with one pin. EA/H finishes the season firmly in the four spot in the league at 3-3 behind three ranked squads and achieved double digit victories on the overall record and on the final night of dual meet action in WNY.
