#2 Pioneer 31 – #3 Iroquois 30

The Chiefs gave everything they had but the Panthers prevailed in a huge ECIC II match in Yorkshire that will more than likely will be the deciding match for the league title this season. The dual featured only one forfeit. The first seven matches of the evening (the dual started at 99-pounds) ended in decisions and were wrestled to full six minute bouts. Iroquois’s Jake Vergien earned the first fall of the night at 145-pounds. With the last two bouts being 220 and 285-pounds, Pioneer’s Mike Rigerman and Trevor Smith carried the Panthers over the Chiefs with pins at both weights. Not only was the match critical for league standings, it essentially confirmed seeding for both squads in the Div. II Dual Meet Championship next weekend. Pioneer is the #7 ranked small school team and Iroquois #20 in the latest NYSSWA poll.

#9 St. Joe’s 48 – HM Canisius 28

The Marauders won ten out of fifteen weight classes to hold off the Crusaders and set the stage for a ‘Snakepit’ MMHSAA title showdown with St. Francis next Friday. Only one forfeit was yielded in the match. ‘Joe’s won all five matches from 170 to 285-pounds in the strongest part of the Marauder lineup. A few of the evening’s matches featured defending CHSAA place winners against one another like Canisisus’s Josh Kracker versus Joe’s Dalas Jackson and Joe’s Sullivan Walsh versus Canisius’s Thomas Blackwell. St. Joe’s is now 2-0 in MM action while Canisius finishes the season with a 2-2 record in MM.

Franklinville 36 – Gowanda 31

The Panthers earned a CCAA crossover win over Gowanda. Franklinville entered wrestlers at thirteen out of fifteen weight classes, yielding a forfeit to Gowanda at 220-pounds only. 285-pounds was forfeited by both squads. Gowanda won six of the eight head to head matches but yielded too many forfeits.

Williamsville South 51 – Depew/Cleveland Hill 30

The Billies earned a nice win over their ECIC II rival. South entered a full lineup, received forfeits at only 120 and 285-pounds, and won nine bouts to Depew’s six. Six of the Billie’s eight wins came by fall, including a big win for Jaden Friel over Depew’s Michael Alberti at 113-pounds.

Attica/Batavia 57 (V) – St. Mary’s of Lancaster 12

St. Mary’s took on a very tough Blue Devils squad and entered twelve out of fifteen bouts (double forfeit at 99 and 106 and a forfeit given at 285). People have taken notice of the Lancer’s improved participation over the last two years and a solid schedule put together by head coach Zach Weiss.

#1 Falconer 67 – Randolph 18

The NYSSWA #3 small school Golden Falcons won a league crossover against the two time defending CCAA Div. II champion Cardinals. Falconer moved to 23-1 with the win.

HM Amherst 63 – Sweet Home 20

The Tigers earned an ECIC II win over their inner-town rivals.

#1 Niagara Wheatfield 48 – #2 Niagara Falls 24

The Falcons moved one step closer to returning the Niagara Frontier League title to Sanborn with a big home win against the previously undefeated Wolverines. The NYSSWA #15 Falcons secured the dual with three bouts left on the evening to retain the Niagara Cup for the fourth straight year in front of a packed, loud, and standing room only home gym. Head coach Rick Sweney and the Falcons should be a top two seed at next weekend’s Section VI Dual Meet Championships. The Wolverines (4-1, 16-1) should be number three or four.

#5 (big school) Olean 39 – #4 (small) Fredonia 37

The Huskies maintained their undefeated season with a big CCAA Div. I win at Fredonia to improve to 4-0 in the league. Despite yielding three forfeits worth eighteen team points, Olean earned six head to head wins earning pins in five of them. Fredonia won five head to heads, put only recorded one pin those matches. It’s a tale as old as time: pins win duals. The bout featured a plethora of great individual matches as well. Fredonia’s Brandon Wallace earned a quality decision win over state tournament wildcard Nick Bierfeldt at 132-pounds. Teammate Cedric Kristan gutted out a 5-3 win over Olean’s Icar Simon at 170. The Huskies’ Connor Walsh earned a quality decision win, 7-3, against Fredonia’s Jake Skinner at 220-pounds. Fredonia falls to 3-1 in CCAA Div. I and 13-5 overall.

#3 Clarence 49 – #7 Hamburg 28

The Red Devils ended the Bulldogs’ ECIC I perfect record taking nine out of fifteen bouts, six by way of pin. Only three of the evening’s bouts ended in decisions and there were NO FORFEITS. With the dual victory, Clarence earned some points that will factor into their dual meet seeding for next weekend. It’s looking more and more like the 2019 edition of the ‘Border War’ against Lancaster will decide the ECIC I champion…again. Clarence is 4-0 in the league and 16-1 overall. Hamburg slides to 3-1 in ECIC I, 13-4 overall.

#3 (small school) Iroquois 48 – #8 (big) Starpoint 22

Iroquois seniors wrestled in front of the home crowd for the last time as the Chiefs put together solid performances in back-to-back nights against two tough ECIC II opponents. Only twenty-four hours elapsed between the big dual at Pioneer the night before and when Starpoint showed up in Elma. Iroquois won ten out of fifteen bouts, including seven straight between 132 and 182-pounds, to improve to 5-1 in ECIC II and 13-2 overall. The Spartans fell to 4-2 in the league and 11-7 overall. Each squad has one league dual remaining this season.

#5 Newfane 54 – Albion 21

The Newfane Panthers under first year head coach Matt Lingle secured the Niagara-Orleans title for the sixth straight season. The Panthers are 30-0 in N-O duals over that time. Newfane will have an opportunity to take the league tournament title too when the six N-O squads square up in this weekend’s 53rd Annual Niagara-Orleans All-League Wrestling Championships at Albion H.S.

#7 Tonawanda 52 – HM Eden 27

Head coach Dan Bishop and the Warriors moved one match closer to the ECIC III title with a win at home against a tough Raiders team.  With league duals against Cheektowaga and Maryvale remaining, Tonawanda is in command with a 5-0 league record. Eden slid to 3-2 in the league.

#2 Pioneer 57 – #10 Lake Shore 15

Pioneer won an exciting dual the previous evening but had to travel to Angola Wednesday to take on a young but scrappy Eagles squad in an ECIC II tilt. Every match between 99 and 182-pounds were contested, however Lake Shore had to yield forfeits in the last three weights. The Panthers (6-0, 20-3) won seven of the eleven contested bouts to move to within one league win the team’s sixth straight league championship.

#8 Portville 61 – Randolph 24

The Panthers (3-0, 14-4) picked up their third CCAA Div. II win of the season and against the defending league champion. Portville picked up eleven wins (five forfeits) in rolling to 61 team points. A league title showdown with HM Maple Grove (3-0 CCAA Div. II) on Friday, January 18th seems imminent.

HM Orchard Park 45 – HM West Seneca West 31

Head coach Jared Teal and the Quakers have really shown signs of improvement this season. Orchard Park wrestled ECIC leaders Clarence, Lancaster, and Hamburg in the first half of the season. Currently 2-3 in ECIC I and with a more manageable league schedule down the stretch, the Quakers could make a run at winning duals against their last two division rivals (Frontier, Williamsville North) to finish 4-3 in ECIC I. Orchard Park is in contention to qualify for the Section VI Duals. They’ll know if they made it in by the end of the weekend.

North Tonawanda 60 – Lockport 21

The ‘Jacks took down NFL rival Lockport Lions for the first time in over 20 years under NT alum and first year head coach Wally Maziarz. Maziarz has got the momentum of this team and program headed in the right direction.

HM Frontier 52 – Williamsville North 30

The Falcons earned their 2nd win in ECICI I this season to stay alive in the race for the Duals. Frontier is 2-3 in the league and 12-10 overall. Frontier again entered a full lineup. North entered a wrestler at all but one weight class (126-pounds).

Cheektowaga 39 – Maryvale 33

Cheektowaga had this ECIC III tilt locked up with three bouts left in the match against their Union Road rival. There’s no quit in these scrappy Warriors under head coach Matt Haberl who are now 3-2 in the league.

#1 Falconer 70 – Gowanda 9

Falconer is 24-1 and should be a lock for #1 seed in the Section VI Div. II Duals.

#9 East Aurora 70 – Alden 6

The Blue Devils are 4-1 in ECIC III and 16-8 overall.

#6 Grand Island 60 – Lewiston-Porter 27

Frewsburg 39 – Salamanca 12

Make that two wins for the Bears in CCAA Div. II this season! Well done Frewsburg.

Medina 45 – Barker/Royalton-Hartland 40

Akron 63 – Wilson 14

Jamestown at Lancaster – postponed

Lackawanna over Springville – no score reported

Maple Grove at Dunkirk

Twelve out of fifteen bouts were contested as the Lancers yielded only two forfeits (double forfeit at 106). St. Francis won eight head to head matchups to St. Mary’s three. St. Francis moved to 3-0 in Msgr. Martin and 19-7 overall. Next Friday’s league dual at St. Joe’s will more than likely decide the MMHSAA champion for the thirteenth straight season.

HM Amherst 53 – HM Eden 24

The Tigers got back to .500 with an ECIC crossover win over Eden at home.

Franklinville 64 – Cattaraugus-Little Valley 16
