Top 5 Games of the Day

Williamsville North at Lockport (Boys Lacrosse) – 5 p.m.

The reigning Class B runner-up, Williamsville North Spartans begin their conference schedule by traveling to Niagara County to take on the Lockport Lions. Will North is 4-2 and is over two weeks removed from its last game, an 11-9 win over Lancaster. Attackman Matt Jones leads the Spartans with 23 goals and 24 ground balls. The Lions are 2-5 and coming off an 8-5 win over Sweet Home before the break. The trio of Logan Wendt, Logan Wulf and Keagan Stevens have double-digit points so far this season.

Niagara-Wheatfield vs. Niagara Falls (Baseball) – 5 p.m.

This “Battle of the Niagaras” features two of the top teams in the NFL. Both teams are looking for their third win after Mother Nature nixed their games yesterday. The Niagara Falls Wolverines began the season with an impressive 20-0 win over Kenmore West but were shutout by Grand Island two days later. They also have a win over Frontier. The Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons have wins over North Tonawanda and Lewiston-Porter. NF Senior Noah Licht is having a hot start to the season with four hits and three RBIs in three games. N-W is led by senior catcher Mike Huff who is committed to Western Michigan.

Frontier vs. Lancaster (Baseball) – 5 p.m.

After Game 1 of their back-to-back doubleheader set for yesterday was postponed, the Frontier Falcons will take on the Legends this afternoon in Lancaster. Both teams are 2-1 this season. Billy Morris is having a “legendary” start to the season for defending Class AA champion Lancaster. The D’Youville commit had two home runs in a come-from-behind win over Williamsville North before the break. The Legends won 5 of 7 games on their trip to Flordia last week. Frontier is led by NCCC commit Nick Schulz, who homered in the Falcons’ season-opening win over Depew.

Lancaster vs. West Seneca West (Softball) – 5 p.m.

Just across the way, the Lancaster Softball team will be in a big game themselves as they host the West Seneca West Indians in a battle of the unbeatens. The Legends didn’t play during the break, but they had three successful trips to Williamsville the week before. They beat East, North and South by a combined 19 runs. Florida commit Madi Balk was in the circle the entire time throwing 44 strikeouts. She was just as helpful offensively, with a .636 AVG, two homers and seven RBIs. Frankie Morris and Ellie Park have a .667 AVG. The Indians have wins over Frontier and Hamburg. Keuka College commits Grace Eagen and Emily Cutrona along with Fredonia commit Mac Miller are three of 10 returning players from last year’s team for West Seneca West.

Williamsville South at Lewiston-Porter (Girls Lacrosse) – 5 p.m.

The Williamsville South Billies will be looking to stay unbeaten as they travel up the Lew-Port to take on the Lancers this afternoon. Will South is 3-0, outscoring their opponents 47-12 in the process. Lew-Port stands at 3-1 with their lone loss to West Seneca West, a team the Billies have beaten. Senior Heather Carey leads Will South with 13 goals and seven assists this year. The Lancers are led by Kayla Persinger, who has 16 goals and 12 assists on the year.
