Kenmore Field Hockey Looking Forward To Second Half of Season

Kenmore varsity field hockey endured a tough week last week, losing to Newfane at home Tuesday 3-1 as well as dropping a 6-0 decision at powerful Barker Thursday.

Tuesday’s game was a disappointing loss for all of us. Full credit to Newfane, they deserved the win. Newfane came in winless and scoreless, but they possess perhaps the league’s best goalie. We knew it going in, talked about getting to the net and scoring what I call the “unstoppable field hockey goal”, and we didn’t achieve that.

Newfane outshot Kenmore 16-10 and carried the play more then Kenmore hoped for. Kenmore didn’t score until the 19 minute mark of the 2nd half, when captain Britney Waite continued her great season, hammering home a penalty corner off of Lauren Krug’s assist.

All of us had hoped for the better, but that is sports, great wins and tough losses.

Thursday the Devil Dogs held Barker scoreless for 18 minutes, before giving up 2 goals in the first half. When you are struggling you look for positives we, by far, played our best 20 minutes of the season in the first half. We displayed a grit and will to win that we will need as the 2nd half starts up this week.

Barker is Barker, they eventually wore us down. But we had no fear, stood up to them, and look forward to another crack at down the road.

The Devil Dogs anxiously look forward to the 2nd half of the season beginning Tuesday at home when they attempt to avenge a season opening 6-0 loss to Roy-Hart. Kenmore goes into next week with a 2-7 overall record.
