Showdown Saturday in Williamsville as Flames Host Billies

Williamsville East head coach Chris Glenn spent nine seasons on the Williamsville South sidelines. On Saturday he’ll line up across from Kraig Kurzanski; the Billies head coach, his former boss and mentor. For some reason the cross town rivals missed each other on the schedule last season. This year, the two teams will line up Saturday afternoon at East.

“I’ve been looking forward to it. I learned everything from Kraig” Glenn said. “From hiring a staff to running a practice. He’s my go-to-guy. Kraig taught me that it’s all about the kids. It’s not about us. This will be a very special game for me.”

The Flames are coming off a week 2 road win over Lew-Port, 42-22. A trio of seniors led the way with tailback TJ Allen picking up 242 yards rushing and two touchdowns. QB Nick Falkides picked up his first win as a starter and the other senior, wide-receiver Drew Butler made 4 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. This after a disappointing opening week loss at North Tonawanda.

“We missed a lot of opportunities at NT. They kicked our butts” coach Glenn said about the week 1 loss. “After that though we had a great week of practice, our leaders really stepped up. We asked them to and they really responded. We watched film, really got after our kids, we were honest with them. They came out with a different mindset” Glenn said.

Both Will East and South lost to North Tonawanda this season. In both games the Lumberjacks held the opposing offenses in check, surrendering a total of 14 points. East got their offense going last week and hope to continue that at home on Saturday.
