Tuesday, Jan. 16th


Sweet Home 36 – Alexander (V) 18 (girls)

 

The Panthers picked up their first win as a new program at home winning seven matches in the varsity dual and two exhibitions.

 

Winning matches in the varsity dual for Sweet Home against Alexander were Ava Lockridge, Kaitlyn Mieczkowski, Georgia Zorich, Sofia Guadagna, Jayden Crouse, Yaletsy Tamayo, and Angel Gonzalez.

Wednesday, Jan. 17th


#9 Randolph 57 – Frewsburg 18

 

Randolph repeats as CCAA II league champion

 

The Cardinals cruised past league rival Frewsburg on Wednesday at home to lock up the team’s second consecutive Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Div. II title and 5-0 unbeaten league season. Randolph won six of eight head to head matches in the dual and collected a number of forfeits in beating the Bears.

#1 Chautauqua Lake 49 – #2 Southwestern 19

 

The Eagles cruised to their second win over the Trojans this season in a league dual rematch of the Section VI Div. II Duals final. CL won nine of thirteen weights against Southwestern’s limited roster on Wednesday night to include four wins in seven contested bouts. Chautauqua’s Gavin Burchanowksi and Southwestern’s Neves Hoose each earned notable wins for their season resumes in the match. At 4-2 in CCAA I the Trojans’ 2023-2024 league schedule is now complete. At 5-0, Chautauqua Lake has a chance to win the league outright next week when they pay a visit to #3 Falconer, who took down the Eagles 38-36 on Dec. 28th.

 

#3 Falconer/Cassadaga Valley 49 – Dunkirk 21

 

The Golden Cougars improve to 4-1 in CCAA I with only five bouts contested against the Marauders. 

 

#8 Portville 48 – Fredonia 24

 

The Panthers cruised to their third CCAA I win of the season with a road win over the Hillbillies. Portville won eight of ten contested bouts including six pins to improve to 14-5 overall with one more league dual remaining on the schedule. Mekhi Muhyee and Samuel Zeigler each earned quality decision wins for Portville against Fredonia.

 

#10 Medina 48 – Albion 24

 

The Mustangs complete the 2023-2024 league schedule with a 4-1 record in Niagara-Orleans duals.

 

Maple Grove 54 – Franklinville 22

 

Maple Grove won six of eight head to head matches and picked up a trio of forfeits to improve to 2-2 in CCAA II with a home win over the Panthers on Wednesday. The Red Dragons can finish over .500 with a win in Bemus Point over Salamanca next week.

 

Friday, Jan. 19th


#4 Newfane 48 – Barker/Royalton-Hartland 30

 

Newfane earns 10th consecutive Niagara-Orleans title, 50-0 in league duals in last ten full seasons

 

The Panthers captured the team’s 10th straight full season Niagara-Orleans title on Friday taking down B/R-H to complete another 5-0 campaign against league rivals. Tied 30-30 with only three matches remaining, Newfane’s Richard Doxey (170-pounds), Collin Doxey (190), and Ty Mangione (215) all earned pins to seal the Newfane win over the Raider-Rams to capture a 10th straight outright N-O title.

Saturday, Jan. 20th


#2 St. Francis 42 – #10 St. Joe’s 24

 

White, Drummond lead St. Francis to third Msgr. Martin dual title in last five full seasons

 

The Red Raiders overcame an early 15-0 deficit after three weights to score thirty six straight points against the arch rival Marauders on the road to seal the team’s third Msgr. Martin dual title in the last five full seasons. Rory White and Brandon Drummond picked up especially big wins for St. Francis while six more Raiders earned pins in the dual. Sophomore Zach Caldwell sealed the win with a late third period pin at heavyweight while classmate Cullen Edwards picked up his 100th career win with a pin in the final bout of the dual. St. Francis finishes the season 4-0 in the league and currently sits at 16-3 overall this season.

54th Niagara-Orleans All-League Wrestling Championships @ Albion

 

Newfane crowns tournament high six champions on the way to 4th consecutive Niagara-Orleans tournament title

 

Less than 24 hours after securing a 10th straight N-O dual meet title the Panthers claim a 4th consecutive All-League tournament title, the team’s 9th out of the last ten contested tournaments. Newfane outpaced runner-up team Wilson 197.5 to 146.5-points for the team title, nearly identical scores to the 2023 N-O tournament where Newfane scored 193-points to Wilson’s 148.5.

 

The Lakemen crowned three individual champions on Saturday and outpaced third place Medina who accumulated 128-points. Akron (105), Barker/Royalton-Hartland (88), and Albion (28) rounded out the team scoring.

2024 Gowanda Round Robin Tournament

 

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley accumulated 193.5 team points to claim the boys’ Gowanda team title for a third straight season behind a pair of champions in Evan (108) and Dylan (116) Newman. Dylan, a freshman and returning state tournament qualifier, achieved his 100th career victory on the day as well.

 

Portville claimed 2nd in the team standings with 174.5-points to out pace Maple Grove’s 169.5 for third.

2024 Queen Bison Invitational @ Shaker HS, Latham (II)

 

Chautauqua Lake made the nearly five and a half hour journey into Section II territory to compete at Shaker’s Queen Bison tournament for a second straight season. The Eagles earned a third place finish in the team standings in a packed twenty two team field behind individual champions Lauren Jagoda and Kristina Dickey and four more place winners. CL finished with 129 team points behind 2nd place Niskayuna/Schenectady (II) and well ahead of 4th place finisher Shenendehowa (II) with 79-points.

 

Jagoda captured the 120-pound B bracket title going 4-0 on the day with four first period pins. Dickey captured the 185-pound title with a 5-0 performance on Saturday to include two pins in those matches.

 

Noli Paddock (2nd, 126), Gabriella Testa (2nd, 138), Sophia Gervasio (3rd, 145), and Alex Siliano (4th, 138) all placed top-4 in their respective brackets to help the Eagles to 3rd in the final team scoring.

 

2024 ECIC Wresting Championships @ Lancaster

 

Amherst claims team title; Clarence crowns tournament high three champions; Eden’s Mason DellaPenta MOW

 

Amherst boasted a tournament high ten place winners led by 152-pound champion Zak Saeed to capture the team title at the ECIC Championships at Lancaster on Saturday accumulating 196.5 points to second place Clarence’s 183.5. Saeed defended his top seed in the bracket and earned three pins on the way to the final where he was an 8-3 decision winner over Jamestown’s Cole Bloomquist for the 152-pound title. Fellow Tigers Mustafa Natiq (108) and Riley Kirst (131) both wrestled to runner-up finishes for Amherst in their respective brackets. Kirst captured his 100th career victory on the day as well, becoming the ninth wrestler in program history to reach that milestone.

 

Quinlan Lyle (4th, 138), Killian Simonson (4th, 170), Josh Knobloch (4th, 190), Moshin Ali (5th, 131), Nathan Cohen (5th, 138), Ali Al-Mutiary (5th, 170), and Brayden Kirst (6th, 116) all earned crucial advancement points and placements in the consolations to help the Tigers’ championship effort.

 

Clarence was led by three individual champions, two runners-up, and a 4th place finisher to land a second place finish in the team standings. Red Devils went back-to-back-to-back winning three weights in a row at 131, 138, and 145-pounds.

Top seeded 131-pound 8th grader Trevor Mueller defended his seed going 5-0 on the day including an impressive finals decision, 14-7, over Amherst’s senior. At 138, top seeded defending state tournament qualifier AJ Didas went 5-0 with five straight pins including a first period pin in the title match to win the ECIC title. Then, at 145, top seeded senior Joey Keller posted a 5-0 record to win the ECIC title. Keller earned a crucial 6-2 decision victory over Iroquois’s state tournament qualifier Alex Schiffhauer in the semifinal before an impressive pin over Eden’s two time state qualifier Bryce DellaPenta in the final. Clayton Feltz (2nd, 160) and Bryce Hawes (2nd, 285), and Zach Didas (4th, 101) also placed to the help the Clarence team effort.

Williamsville North/East rounded out the top-3 teams with 173-points and eight place winners led by 160-pound champion Cam Catrabone. Tanner Catrabone (101) landed a second place finish for the Spartans.

Top-5 placing teams Pioneer (4th, 163-points) and Frontier (5th, 137) each crowned two individual champions while Eden (8th, 107.5) crowned a pair of champions as well. Lackawanna’s 6th place finish was the highest place finish for the Steelers since a 7th place team finish at the 2011 ECIC championships.
