Class D Playoff Prediction

Class C

The Favorite

Newfane Panthers

Overall Record (8-0), League (7-0)

You gotta love Mac Capen. Most likely the Class D POY. Just an exceptional football player in every way. You knew he could run the ball, found out he can throw it and now know he can blow anyone up at the line of scrimmage. He’s a man among boys. As long as Capen is on the field, Newfane has a chance to beat anybody in Class D. Reminds me a little of Shaun Dolac.

The Contenders

Wilson Lakemen

Overall Record (7-1), League (6-1)

They need to forget about last week and get back to Lakemen football. If they do that they’ll earn a rematch with the Panthers. I’m certain they have and will.

Gowanda/Pine Valley

Overall Record (6-2), League (5-2)

Have had a hard time putting teams away and have struggled against the top teams in their Class. But it’s a new season. If G/PV can put the regular season in the rearview mirror and focus on the task at hand, they may surprise somebody, even themselves. Winter Mentley-Peters is a player that everyone in WNY should know about, he’s a machine. And could be the key to any postseason success.

Randolph Cardinals

Overall Record (5-3), League (4-3)

Under new head coach Nate Armella the Cards have really stepped up their game. They play a well balanced brand of football that has served them well. Need to take care of Silver Creek if they want another dance with Newfane.

Dark Horse

Silver Creek/Forestville Black Knights

Overall Record (3-5), League (3-4)

They have put together a pretty good season down at Silver Creek, and they want to continue. It’s been a while since the Black Knights have been in position to win a playoff game, yet here we are. Primed and ready for Randolph for some Halloween Havoc! Fun fact, head coach Sean Helmer and I share a birthday.

Franklinville/Ellicotville Titans

Overall Record (2-6), League (2-5)

It’s been a trying year for the Titans. They’ve weathered some storms. One thing FE has always been able to count on was their defense. They’ll need a great effort Friday when they face Carter Capozzi and Gowanda/PV.

Long Shot

Cattaraugua/Little Valley

Overall Record (2-6), League (1-6)

I love what Mark Benton has done in Catt/LV these past two years. Not the easiest place to build a program but he’s done an admirable job of getting kids to come out and play football. You have to take your hat off to the guy and his players. Yes, it would be a longshot for them to advance but they aren’t going to go quietly.

Stadium Prediction

Wilson 18, Newfane 16
